Staff Relations
Who We Are
Staff Relations is responsible for providing advice and assistance to employees and administrators, managers and supervisors on a variety of employee relations issues. These include:
- Applying State and federal laws, and university policies and procedures in matters affecting non-faculty personnel at the university;
- Workplace conflict and policy issues, providing employees and supervisors assistance, as appropriate;
- Providing management advice on performance and disciplinary issues;
- Administering and interpreting collective bargaining provisions under the Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) for the three bargaining units (exempt, nonexempt and sworn police officers);
- Training supervisors and managers on employee relations issues such as policies, understanding the MOUs, and dealing with issues in the workplace;
- Representing management in collective bargaining negotiations;
- Preparing testimony and evidence for, and representing management at grievances;
- Assisting management in unemployment compensation issues;
- Monitoring the probation process for new employees and current employees moving to new positions;
- Providing assistance and advice to administrators and employees regarding layoffs;
- Assisting managers and employees with issues arising under the university's Family and Medical Leave (FML) and sick leave policies; and
- Assisting managers with modified duty requests and requests for accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
