    The following highlights only some of the benefits available to University of Maryland employees. Benefits may differ based on employment category and FTE. This is intended as a general summary only; the programs and their provisions are subject to change by the appropriate authority or staff collective bargaining agreement at any time.

    Medical Plans
    Three types of plans are offered including a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO), a Point-Of-Service (POS) plan and an Exclusive Provider Organization (EPO).     Vision Plan
    Routine vision care benefits are available to all employees and their dependents enrolled in a health insurance plan through the State of Maryland.     Dental Insurance
    Two plans are offered: United Concordia DHMO and United Concordia PPO. The State pays 50% of premium costs. Please visit the link for details: http://uhr.umd.edu/benefits/plan_dental.cfm

    Prescription Drug Plan
    The plan is administered by Express Scripts and is good at all major pharmacies nationwide. Co-payments are based upon formularies and are normally $10, $25, or $40, dependent upon the drug being purchased.     Mental Health/Substance Abuse Plan
    Available to all individuals and their dependents who carry medical coverage through the State of Maryland. No additional premium required. Please visit the link for details: http://uhr.umd.edu/benefits/plan_mental.cfm

    Personal Accident and Dismemberment Coverage
    Provides benefits if individual is killed or dismembered in an accident. The accident can be either on or off the job. Premiums are inexpensive. Please visit the link for details: http://uhr.umd.edu/benefits/plan_death.cfm

    Flexible Spending Account
    Two Types of FSA's are available: the Health Care Account and the Child Care Account. Health Care Account pays for medical services not paid for by your medical plan.     Life Insurance
    Two life insurance plans are offered: the State Plan and the University Plan. In the State plan, the first $50,000 is guaranteed issue and the employee can sign up for as much as $300,000 in $10,000 increments with medical underwriting. Rates are age based.     In the University plan, an individual can sign up for as much as six times of his/her salary (not to exceed $750,000) in $10,000 increments with medical underwriting. Please visit the link for details: http://uhr.umd.edu/documents/Unum_Life_Coverage_Highlights.pdf

    Long Term Care
    Provides benefits for an individual who needs assistance with daily activities, either at home or a facility. Coverage is portable. Please visit the link for details: www.prudential.com/gltcweb/maryland

    Long Term Disability
    LTD pays 60 percent of the monthly salary after individual has been unable to work for 90 or 365 days. Benefits are tax-free. Rates are age-based. Please visit the link for details: http://uhr.umd.edu/benefits/plan_longTermDisability.cfm

    Tuition Remission
    Regular Status Employees: Eligible for graduate or undergraduate courses; may attend any institution participating in University System of Maryland program. Can take up to 8 credits hours during fall, summer and spring sessions, while 4 credit hours during winter session, pro-rated to the employee's FTE. Undergraduate tuition remission is non-taxable while for graduate courses in excess of $5,250 annually is taxable.

    Contingent 2 (C2) Employees: Eligible for tuition remission benefits that are negotiated and defined in the employment contract. As a required minimum benefit, College park C2 employees are eligible for tuition remission benefits at College Park and University College only.

    Spouse/Dependent: If hired after 7/1/1990, spouse/dependent is eligible once the employee has completed 2 full years of employment at the University, and for the first undergraduate degree only. Must attend institution where employee works. Must meet admission requirements. Eligible for full tuition remission for fall and spring sessions, 8 credit hours total for the summer sessions and 4 credit hours during the winter session, pro-rated to the employee's FTE. Spouse/dependents of Contingent 2 employees are eligible for tuition remission at College Park only.

    Pension
    Non-exempt Employees: Mandatory enrollment in State Pension System. Defined Benefit Plan - Retirement based upon formula: Longer you work, higher your salary, the better the pension will be. 7 percent mandatory contribution. Vesting in 10 years. Normal retirement age is 65 with 10 years of service or the Rule of 90, where age and years of service, when added together, must equal 90. Offers disability retirement provision. Death benefit equal to 1 year of salary in event of death while actively employed. Provides fully subsidized health insurance to retiree and their dependents once individual has reached 25 years of service. Full retirement replaces approximately 45 percent of salary.     Exempt Regular Employees/Faculty: Two plans are available: State Pension System and Optional Retirement Program (ORP). Employer contribution is 7.25 percent of base salary. Money vests immediately. Employee selects company to deposit money with and how funds are invested. Benefit based upon how investments perform. Health insurance is subsidized upon retirement but differently than Pension System.

    Supplemental Retirement
    Allows employees to contribute up to $17,000 annually on a pre-tax basis. Individuals over 50 can contribute an additional $5,500. May deposit as little as $10 per pay period. May open account at any time and can change the amount being deposited as often as you like. May open a 403(b) or 401(k) plan in addition to a 457(b) plan; same maximums apply to both.     Paid Leave
    Annual leave
    Annual leave is paid leave earned and available for use by eligible employees that may be used for any purpose. Requests for annual leave must be pre-approved by the employee's supervisor. Please read leave policy for details.

    Annual Leave

    Starting with the 11th year through completion of the 20th year of service 20 6:09 (369 mins)
    Starting with the 21st year and thereafter 25 7:42 (462 mins)
    Regular Exempt & Faculty: (Note: only 12-month regular faculty earn annual leave) Starting with the 1st month through completion of the 20th year of service 22 6:46 (406 mins)
    Starting with the 21st year and thereafter 25 7:42 (462 mins)


    Holiday Leave
    Holiday leave is a paid leave available to regular employees for the observance of certain holidays, in accordance with the university's official holiday calendar. Eligible regular employees earn 14 days of Holiday Leave per year, 15 in a year of a general or Congressional election. Please read leave policy for details.

    Personal Leave
    Eligible employees are granted 3 Personal Leave days per calendar year, to be used for any purpose. Nonexempt requires prior approval of the supervisor; exempt requires the supervisor be provided prior notification. Please note that only 12-month regular faculty earns personal leave.     Sick Leave
    Sick leave is paid leave granted to regular employees in an effort to provide some protection against the loss of earnings due to absences for certain health and related reasons. A full-time regular employee earns sick leave at the rate of 15 days per year (4 hours and 37 minutes each pay period). Please note that sick leave earning for 9-month faculty is prorated based on an academic year. Please read leave policy for details.

    Other Privilege

    State Employees Credit Union of Maryland (SECU)
    SECU offers employees free checking, share savings, direct deposit, convenient payroll deduction, ATM services, new and used auto loans, and other financial services. Please visit the link for details: http://www.secumd.org.

    Athletic Events
    Employees receive discounts on Terp football and basketball season ticket packages. The Maryland athletic program consists of 27 varsity sport teams that play in the highly competitive ACC; many teams have won national and conference championships. Please visit http://www.umterps.com.

    Cultural Programs
    Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at Maryland is popular for its diverse and innovative programs in the Fine Arts, including music, dance and theater.     Library Privileges
    University of Maryland campus has 8 libraries and special collections. Employees have access to all library units in accordance with library policies and regulations. Please visit the link for details: http://www.lib.umd.edu

    Discount Tickets
    Employees are eligible for discounts to a variety of major attractions. Employees are also eligible for discounts on movie tickets and rental cars.

    Campus Book Store
    Employees receive discount on items purchased from University Book Center in the Stamp Union. Please visit UMCP Bookstore for details.

    Recreation Programs
    The University of Maryland provides an unparalleled opportunity for recreational sports and leisure activity. Employees and their families are eligible to access the vast array of recreational facilities and activities including the gyms, pools, courts, and clubs and to take classes in areas like aquatics, fitness, tennis and intramural sports.
